The Cuckoo's Calling

The Cuckoo's Calling - Robert Galbraith This is one of those rare books that moves as slow as glaciers and yet keeps my attention. The only other mystery book that was as enjoyable and yet so dense was Stieg Larsson's books. In fact, I had the "Stalker Song" in my head while reading this. You know, "Every breath you take, every conversation you have, I'll be writing it down." Okay, maybe not exactly like that but you get the drift.

So, despite the epic slowness of the book, I rather enjoyed the story. Robin and Cormoran is a great duo. The story isn't necessarily new but well written (of course it is!) with plenty of possibilities involved. I could totally see BBC doing this like several of their cross over hits like Downton Abbey and Sherlock. This book alone would make up season 1.

Positives: Great first book in series, Robin and Cormoran are a great duo.
Downside: Epically, glacially slow. Prepare to spend days feeling like you're getting nowhere in the story!

Read this cause you enjoy mysteries, not because of the JK Rowling authorship.
