Murder on the Rails

Murder on the Rails - William G. Palmini Jr. The story is an interesting one that intrigues me on the same level that I am intrigued with outlaw motorcycle groups. Not only are there subgroups but like every group, there can be a darker, more violent group.

Hobos and train hobos have been around since trains were introduced. However, it seems that gangs have started to appear on the rails. These gangs regularly beat, steal, rob, and sometimes murder. Sometimes they act like a gang or sometimes it's just one member of the group. The group itself is violent. I would say, it's like the Hell's Angels-Angels are dangerous both solo and in group form. These guys can be dangerous both ways.

Silveria, the murderer of the rails, is a member of the FTRA-Freedom Train Riders of America. The group is slightly racist, violent, and rail hoppers. Silveria killed mostly those that were in the FRTA, rail hoppers, or drug dealers.

The scary thing is, we don't know how many he killed. Many people that knew he was a killer avoided him or was wary around but never talked to cops about him. He wouldn't have been caught if it wasn't for a combination of a cop noticing a pattern and Silveria turning himself in to railroad cops.

I think the author is a little full of himself, but the story of Silveria is interesting enough to recommend this to true crime fans.
