The Good Doctor

I am glad I did. Set just after apartheid has ended, it's the tale of a small hospital that was never really finish and not important in any way. A small rag-tag bunch has been over seeing the small emergencies that trickle in and usually transport them to the large hospital just a way down the road. To this small group comes Laurence, a newly minted doctor that is brash and hopeful and the exact opposite of the small group he joins.
Of course, nothing can remain the same and the book is about those changes-big and small-that happen in the next few months.
I enjoyed this, obviously, even though it's not my typical genre. I thought Galgut did a fantastic job of making it seem that nothing was changing and yet everything was changing. The ending left me a little cold, I would have preferred that things got wrapped up just a bit more. But, that's small quibbles and I enjoyed this.
