The Broken Places

The Broken Places - Ace Atkins The third book in the Quinn Colson series is just as much his sister, Caddy's story as it is Quinn's. While the mystery of the book is fairly straight forward: three escape convicts from Parchman headed to Jericho to recover money stashed away after an armored car robbery.

Then you add in Johnny Stagg, a reformed convict that became a preacher (and Caddy's love interest), and some wild Mississippi weather. It all adds up to a fast pace book. Overall, I found little to quibble about but left feeling that this wasn't as good as the first two books. I think in some ways, it's a bridge book-you know, the book that bridges what was the beginning and the rest of the series. There's changes-good and bad, but it's more about moving the series forward and trying to wrap a mystery around that core. Done well here, but unless you've read the first two I wouldn't recommend starting this series with this book. Read the first two and get hooked. Then you'll understand some of the nuances that fill the book.

Oh-I did get an ARC through the publisher. Just so everyone knows and we're on the up and up. Thank you!
